Specialty Care
Specialists are doctors who focus on a particular area of medicine, a type of patient, or a part of the body. Your primary care provider (PCP) might refer you to a specialist to help diagnose or treat you.
For example:
- If you have diabetes, you could be referred to an endocrinologist.
- If you have a cold that doesn’t go away, you could be referred to an ENT for more testing.
- If you have foot pain, you could be referred to a podiatrist.
- Talk with your primary care provider (PCP) if you think that you need to see a specialist.
- All specialty care needs to be arranged through your PCP.
- You might need to have bloodwork or other tests before you see the specialist.
- It is important that you do this before your appointment with the specialist.
Behavioral Health Services
Behavioral health specialists, social workers, therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists treat mental health conditions, alcohol, or substance abuse.
Central Health offers a variety of behavioral health services:
- Therapy, counseling, and medical treatment
- Inpatient care
- Outpatient services
- Crisis residential services
- Emergency mental health services (reorganize list-put most serious first)
- Medication-assisted treatment for addiction to opioid, alcohol, and other drugs.
- Help quitting tobacco, smoking, and vaping.
Surgery
MAP and MAP Basic cover many surgeries. Your primary care provider (PCP) or specialist will help you understand the process.
Day surgeries, also known as outpatient surgeries, are surgeries that can be done in a few hours, and you can go home to recover. Inpatient surgeries require you to stay the night, or longer, in a hospital.
MAP and MAP Basic cover surgeries at ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). Some examples include general surgery, ear, nose, and throat procedures, bowel procedures, dermatology or skin procedures, ophthalmology or eye procedures, podiatry or foot procedures, gynecology, or women’s health procedures.
