(AUSTIN, Texas) – Central Health-supported CommUnityCare Health Centers announced today it is adding Saturday clinic hours at the Del Valle Health Center, located at 3518 FM 973 beginning Sept. 29, 2018.
The location also serves as the Travis County Employee Wellness Center, so CommUnityCare and Central Health worked with Travis County to accommodate the Saturday expansion. Beginning this Saturday, primary care medical services will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, adding to the existing hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
“Eastern Travis County, and specifically Del Valle, is a priority area for our service expansion efforts,” said Central Health President & CEO Mike Geeslin. “We’re continuing to work with the community to address big challenges facing people living in this area – not just lack of health care access.
We are committed to working with all of our partners to help improve the lives of people living in Del Valle because we realize we can’t do it alone.” Geeslin said Central Health and its partners are working on expanding health care services in other priority areas including Elroy and surrounding communities, Creedmoor, Austin’s Colony/Hornsby Bend and Colony Park.
Since the Del Valle Health Center opened for two days a week last November, the clinic has cared for 595 people, of which 45 percent were new patients at CommUnityCare.
“This demonstrates CommUnityCare’s commitment to increased services in Del Valle and the surrounding communities,” said CommUnityCare Vice President of Health Center Advancement Matt Balthazar. “We recognize this is one more step to try and address the needs that persist within our neighborhoods. We are thankful for our partnership with Central Health and Travis County to allow us to expand primary medical services to the Del Valle community. It takes these types of partnerships and community involvement to ensure that Travis County’s growing population has access to the health care services it needs to live healthier.”
The Del Valle Health Center will offer primary care on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Integral Care will offer behavioral health services during the same hours on Mondays. For information or to make an appointment, call 512-978-9015.
Through the Travis County Health and Human Service Family Support Services Division, the county offers case management, rent and mortgage assistance, food pantry, social services, and community referrals at the Travis County Del Valle Community Center, adjacent to the Del Valle Health Center.
Background
In 2015, Central Health, the public agency dedicated to providing access to quality health care for people with low income, formed the Eastern Travis County Health and Wellness Collaboration.
The multidisciplinary team of more than 15 community-based health care and service providers is addressing challenges faced by residents of Eastern Travis County. Central Health also created neighborhood advisory committees to ensure the community has a seat at the table when planning future access to care in their communities.
In September 2018, the Central Health Board adopted the Fiscal Year 2019 budget, which included an estimated $4.498 million for priority projects in Eastern Travis County. This includes costs for land, facilities and services in Austin Colony/Hornsby Bend, Colony Park, Elroy and Creedmoor.
