Solutions For Health Inequality In Austin

In a recent Health and Human Services report to the city, Austin was named the most economically segregated city in the nation, the reason behind the issue of health inequality and a significantly higher rate of disease among certain communities in comparison to others. The city is currently looking at solutions, ranging from better transportation to culturally-specific programing, to remedy the situation.
Austin doctors train on newly patented artificial uterus

The new Dell Medical School in Austin is already culling together innovative technologies for students and the community, and some of them will be used to train doctors and nurses for the future. Such is the case with ‘Nellie,’ a $64,000 training mannequin wearing a newly patented artificial uterus pre-programmed to simulate a fetus at any stage of development or a medical crisis of any kind.

Last Monday, in a seven-hour session, the Austin City Council questioned city department heads for the first time since the proposed 2015-16 budget was released. One particular topic of interest is that nonprofits are pushing for a $6.7 million budget increase for the city-county health department.
