On Tuesday, January 15, the Travis County Commissioners Court selected Guadalupe Zamora, M.D. to fill one of two vacant positions on the Central Health Board of Managers.
Dr. Zamora is a practicing physician at his own family medicine clinic in East Austin. He has also served as past president, secretary and treasurer of the Travis County Medical Society. He served on the advisory board for the Medical Access Program (MAP) prior to the existence of Central Health, when the City of Austin and Travis County shared the responsibilities now assumed by that agency. More recently he served as treasurer of Healthy ATX, a local organization that supports the improvement of the local healthcare system.
Dr. Zamora fills the vacancy created by the retirement of long-time member Frank Rodriguez, who announced his departure in December.
One vacancy remains on the Board of Managers. The Austin City Council and Travis County Commissioners Court will jointly name the appointee. The call for applications is expected to begin in late January. Information on how to submit an application will be posted on the City of Austin and Travis County Web sites in the coming days.
The Austin City Council reappointed Chairperson Rosie Mendoza to the Board of Managers on Thursday, Jan. 17. Originally appointed in 2005, Mendoza will serve her third consecutive four-year term as a member of the board.
The Central Health Board of Managers also recently named officers for the 2013 calendar year. Rosie Mendoza will remain chairperson. Brenda Coleman-Beattie serves as vice-chairperson. Ms. Coleman-Beattie served as Treasurer in 2012. Rebecca Lightsey serves as secretary. Katrina Daniel serves as treasurer.
