The Central Health Board of Managers last night approved a contract with O’Connell Robertson & Associates, Inc. for Architectural/Engineering (AE) services for the new Southeast Health & Wellness Center. This new health center, located on the site of the existing VA Austin Outpatient Clinic at 2901 Montopolis Dr., is planned to open in the fall of 2014.
O’Connell Robertson & Associates, Inc. was awarded the contract on the basis of a qualifications based selection process which encompassed both the firm’s submission of qualifications and an interview. Following selection of the firm, a written not to exceed fee proposal was submitted. The total amount of the contract is $1,294,500. O’Connell Robertson & Associates, Inc. is based in Austin and has relevant healthcare facility experience. The majority of the firm’s subconsultants are also based in Austin.
Selection of the AE firm is the second of three phases required for this project. The first phase, healthcare planning, which involves an extensive community engagement process to determine services and amenities at the facility, began earlier this year and is ongoing. Further community meetings, focused on the ZIP codes that fall within the primary service area, are planned for the coming months to refine the scope of services that will be provided at the new facility. The final phase, expected to begin later this year, is the actual renovation and construction process, leading to the expected opening date of October 1, 2014.
“It’s exciting to be working with a firm that understands our unique needs for the Southeast Health and Wellness Center. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done, and will continue to do, in the community to build a health and wellness center that truly serves those who live in the area and who will make use of this facility,” Board of Managers Chairperson Rosie Mendoza said.
