June 25 citizens communication from Sara Black
Quote from McKinnon, Sr. Communications Manager on July 8, 2020, 8:33 amDear Managers:
With Chairperson Greenberg’s authorization, I am posting remarks that a member of the public who properly registered for Public Comment intended to make to the Central Health Board on June 25, 2020. The public commenter had technical difficulties that prevented her from speaking to the Board, and, after consultation with legal counsel, it was decided that the Online Message Board was the best forum for Central Health to receive the commenter’s remarks. The commenter was informed, and other members of the public should note, that the Central Health Online Message Board is for use by members of the Central Health Board alone and is not a vehicle for members of the public to comment under normal circumstances.
I’m a Black American. My father was in the USAF and was ordered to report to Bergstrom AFB in 1970. I am being discriminated against in your MAP program because I am asked for more information than non-Americans to renew. In my earlier in person renewals these extra requirements also seemed more race focused. So, I consider this discrimination to be based on my race and national origin.
On 5/27/20, I submitted my forms online to renew my MAP card. I completed and signed the residency & Applicant responsibilities. I didn’t provide my birth certificate and I explained that it discrimination and thus illegal to require that from me. Central health does ask undocumented immigrants to provide a birth certificate to renew MAP. Afterwards, I didn’t receive my Map card in the mail.
Instead On 6/6/20, I received a second request for missing information in the mail. This form stated now I also needed to provide my SSN card. It stated I had until 6/16/20 to the provide missing info or I would be denied. Later that day I faxed in the Second Request for missing documents group without my SSN card or birth certificate. I signed another applicant responsibility form. On the forms, I notated that it is discrimination to have higher standards of Americans. On 6/11/20, central health mailed me a third request request for information asking for my SSN card/birth certificate and signed Applicant responsibilities. You have already received two applicant responsibility forms signed by me.This is discrimination. It has already adversely affected me because I was hospitalized in May and received only a 30 day prescription for vital medications. I have run out of the four medications that I filled thru the pharmacy. I needed my MAP renewed to pay for my new Dr to write my new prescriptions. In 2008, the city of Austin asked me for my DL # and SSN to get electric service. It took about 20 days for the city to turn on my electric. Undocumented immigrants were only asked for a copy of their lease and Mexican ID & received power in about 3 days. The city told me the delay was their investigation of my SSN.By using These unequal standards to create a sanctuary city & county you have also created a lawless city &county.Thank youSent from my iPad
