Follow-up to October 27, 2021 BOM Meeting
Quote from Briana Yanes on November 15, 2021, 11:32 amDear Managers,
Please see below a follow-up response to a question asked at the October 27, 2021 Board of Managers Meeting.
Manager Valadez’s Question 1: What is your cost per encounter and similar metric and how CUC compares to other similar community health centers and private clinics.
- CommUnityCare’s medical cost per medical visit (i.e. medical encounter) was provided on slide 4 of the update with Comparison to Texas and National Health Center averages. Of note, there is no local, state or national database that CommUnityCare is aware of that shares the cost per encounter for private clinics. We do, however, have access to the average medical charges provided by private clinics, but this is through proprietary software and most likely inappropriate to share without vendor approval.
Regarding the implications of Build Back Better / the “Human” Infrastructure bill. A response to this emerging topic would be speculative at best at this time noting that we are evaluating what the implications when this is approved. Based on analyses by the Urban Institute and Commonwealth Fund the majority of individuals that would secure coverage through expanded subsidizes are outside our target population of below 200% of FPL. See attached image from the Urban Institute. We are always open to further discussion, but will of course follow your lead on how best to engage this important discussion.
Please let us know if you have any questions /concerns.
Thanks and warmest regards,
Jaeson
